So look what I've been up to recently. Yep, making greeting cards again. Someone recently introduced me to paper crafting and I've been on a roll since. I purchased a small die cutting and embossing machine, a hand crank one, and it just seemed my creative juices caught on fire! Here's a peek at some of what I've done.

STOLEN JOY

I remember the comment I used to hear frequently about 'not letting anyone steal your joy'. It was well intended, usually delivered with love or concern when people who genuinely cared about us became aware of our struggles - especially those struggles that related to another person or persons that it appeared we'd given sway over some aspect of our life. It was comforting somehow to be assured we had someone else to blame for what was ailing us, but the truth is rather than help, it hurt. The truth is, it was terrible advice.

Reality set in for me one day when I realized it is impossible for anyone else to steal MY joy! Even on those occasions when I've tried to leave the door open and tried to force the key into another's hand it was an impossibility. The joy that abides within me - within us - in truth is invader proof. I and I alone am its guardian here on earth because joy is a right I have - you have - which has been given from God; an inalienable right.

What does that mean when we find ourselves unhappy, hurt, discouraged, or confused in our interaction with other people? It means we have not been honest with self. We have not stopped, nor looked, nor listened to our own truths. We have not questioned our own motives, our own expectations, acknowledged our own fears or insecurities that no one outside ourselves has the power to alleviate. We always have our own joy in our own hands. Really we do. But the best knowledge of all is not only is it ours to keep, our own joy is renewed and ready and waiting to keep us whole each and every new day. No one can steal it! That's a promise:

Psalms 30:5

Weeping may endure for a night,
but JOY comes in the morning.

The Same God

I was confused for a while. Wondered how either I could be so wrong or people whom I love and have worshiped with, or, at the least, shared a common faith and conviction with could see the same events, the same people in such different light. I'm not confused any longer.

I realize we are seeing the same things just filtering them through different strainers.

There is accountability ahead of us at some juncture. Soon. If we are serving the same God He is a just God and will not be swayed by our bias or prejudices.

Regardless of what we might like to tell "one's self" the fact is our Spirit of discernment knows Truth.

We know what's real and what is not. If we know Christ we know His image...we are not confused.

ABOUT SECRETS UNCOVERED

A hot one-night stand could lead to a once-in-a-lifetime chance at love.
As the producer of one of TV’s highest-rated shows, Kem Phillips has a knack for creating the perfect leading man. But love in real life? No thanks. She has no interest in repeating her mother’s mistakes.
Thank goodness the star of her newest project is discreet. No one knows about the one-night stand they indulged in at her best friend’s wedding. He’s also a gentleman who always seems to be there when she’s in a jam.
Brent McKenzie has had his share of memorable moments, but that night with Kem is as fresh and hot in his mind as if it was yesterday. He’d love to be the man who comes to her rescue in all possible ways—if she’d let him.
When an emergency call sends Kem racing home to Louisiana, she goes against her better judgment and accepts Brent’s offer to go with her. Yet as everything she thought was true about her past crumbles, is his emotional support something solid to lean on…or a crutch she dare not trust?

Buzzard's Luck - An Oxymoron Haiku

Buzzard's Luck
(An Oxymoron Haiku)

Saw a dead buzzard
on the side of the highway -
completely alone.

©2015 Peggy T. Rush

I thought about the irony of what my husband and I saw on the way to church Sunday morning; a flock of buzzards obviously feasting on recent road kill along the Virginia highway. I thought too about the irony of what we saw on the way back from church; a lone buzzard that had apparently become road kill itself. Strangely it was all alone - nothing flew above it, nothing picked and pecked at it, nothing wanted to feast on it.

That set of scenarios caused me to think this was an oxymoron of the "Buzzard's Luck" theory:
Can't kill anything
and
nothing will die.

Somehow it seems oddly relevant and somewhat indicative of the social and political atmosphere we find ourselves dwelling within today.

Have you lost your moral compass or have you found it?

Have you lost your moral compass or have you found it?

Do you now do and justify or accept behavior from yourself that for the majority of your life you elected not to because somewhere within yourself your self-respect didn't feel it supported its desired goals? Do you give yourself permissions you laughingly know your parents and family would have been appalled to think you would ever engage in?  Is it like there is a brand new person living in your old skin?

If you've taken up residence in this new skin for a while now have you also taken time to ask it some critical questions? Questions like how does it fit?  Who slept better at night? Who was/is healthier?  Who had or has more stress? Who managed or is managing living...day to day better? Who did/do you like more?

And, where to from here? If this feels like the right path do you think there are other areas within that you need to alter? Do you want to release even more of  the boundaries you've set up for yourself? Are you wanting less responsibility, less accountability, less control, fewer commitments?

If it appears perhaps it isn't the good life you were seeking, if you realize in truth you are that original person who still thinks and feels like you thought you did now that you've had an opportunity to explore those other feelings, thoughts, things - tasted what might have seemed less inhibiting, freedoms, but left you feeling less fulfilled, flailing, disconnected - are you willing to try to return to and resume that life you traded? Can you?

Is the world really changing or is it only the perception being promoted of the world that has changed? Does it still only offer 24 hours in any given day to try to choose how you experience the living of it? Where you travel in it?

What direction is your moral compass pointing you?

Do you know how to read a compass?

Secrets

SECRETS

We’ll pull a star down when it shows up
first tonight,
stealing it for a moment, clutching it close,
whispering to it
our secret, then sending it back
to light up
the heavens as its moon glow fellows gather
curious to know
the private content of its charge.
